Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival combines traditions of Día de los Muertos, Halloween, and Harvest celebrations to create an inclusive, family-focused festival that celebrates culture and community.

This year, Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival will be bigger and better than ever! Join us on October 24-26 for a whole weekend of community, candy, and celebration. This multicultural, family-friendly event is located in downtown Denton, Texas with Friday events, our normal full day on Saturday, and more Cirque Du Horror on Sunday!

Coffin Races

The coffin races have easily become one of the most popular attractions of the Day of the Dead Festival. Spectators seem to show up earlier every year to stake their claim on the more coveted viewing spots on Hickory to root for their favorite teams and businesses!

Costume Contest

Put your imagination to the test and build a memorable costume for you or your child for our costume contest. May the best creation win!

Cirque Du Horror

Cirque du Horror is filled with a little fright and a whole lot of laughter! You will endure a delightful descent into the macabre, including a collection of bone-chilling poetry, spine-tingling short stories, and surprisingly-catchy spooky songs. But don’t worry ﹘ our performance is an appropriate spectacle for the entire family!

Pumpkin Patch

A place where children can let their imaginations run wild while earning a few treats for their tricks! Costumes are encouraged, and everyone has free entry!

Flight of Souls

In Mexican lore, the Monarch butterfly is said to represent the souls of the dead. In conjunction with the Community Altar — a traditional Mexican Dia de Los Muertos ofrenda – Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival presents the Flight of Souls, a mass release of live Monarch butterflies to commemorate and honor the dead.
